Family Fun Exploring and Camping in Texas
Fun-loving, adventure-seeking family in Texas, everything is truly bigger in Texas: the fun, the fun, and the nature.
Living desert, multiple national parks, gorgeous state parks! Lots to do!
Road trip to Texas. Julia was looking into prospective colleges. What a great opportunity to combine college search with sightseeing and national park visiting!
We had a very adventurous trip planned. Looking back, we would probably scale it down, simply because there was too much driving.
Our itinerary:
- From Chicago, we drove to T.O. Fuller State Park Campground (TN)
- Then we visited Lakeview – Lake Colorado City State Park (TX)
- Visit Carlsbad Caverns National Park (take a tour, it’s magnificent)
- Visit Guadalupe Mountains National Park
- We drove to New Mexico and camped at KOA
- Visit White Sands National Park
- Take a picture by Prada Marfa (fun!)
- Visit Big Bend National Park
- Visit Garner State Park, stayed at their campground
- Visit Blue Hole Regional Park (it’s a gem, make sure you are on time for your reservation)
- Visit the Alamo
- Make sure to visit Buc-ee’s – it’s a must, don’t skip it. It’s the largest gas station and they have amazing jerky
- Visit Texas State Capitol Building
- Visit Hot Springs National Park
- Visit Dinosaur State Park – camp there and then look for dinosaur tracks!
